Her story did not end
when she left the stage.
It evolved—from performing inside someone else's vision to creating, developing and leading a vision of her own.
Tomeshyia Ford is a Detroit-born creative entrepreneur, former national-stage actress, and the Founder and Executive Producer of Eleganze Productions, a Michigan-based independent production company developing original unscripted entertainment rooted in authentic people, compelling stories, culture, resilience and human experience.
Born and raised on Detroit's east side, Ford's connection to the city extends far beyond geography. Detroit shaped her perspective, ambition, creativity and understanding of people. The youngest of eight children and a twin, she grew up in a working family and came of age in a Detroit she remembers intimately—from its neighborhoods and schools to its cultural landmarks and unmistakable character.
Ford's earliest ambitions did not begin behind a camera. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Her path would eventually take her through the beauty industry before leading her to the stage, where she discovered another expression of her creativity.
Ford went on to work professionally as an actress on Detroit stages and in national-stage productions. That experience placed her inside the machinery of professional entertainment and gave her firsthand exposure to performance, production, audiences and storytelling.
Over time, however, she discovered that her greater creative ambition was not simply to perform someone else's vision. She wanted to build her own.
That evolution led to the formation of Eleganze Productions, through which Ford is developing original entertainment properties with an emphasis on distinctive voices, substantive characters and stories that deserve greater visibility.
Her priority television property, HE IS HIM: DETROIT, is an unscripted reality/docuseries currently in development. Conceived as the beginning of a potential city-based franchise, the project is designed to spotlight multidimensional Black men through stories involving fatherhood, entrepreneurship, education, relationships, brotherhood, adversity, responsibility, achievement, vulnerability, community and legacy.
Ford is also the creator and executive producer of SHE IS HER: DETROIT, a companion unscripted property in development centered on accomplished, substantive and multidimensional women.
Her work represents both a return to entertainment and an evolution within it: from performer to creator, founder and executive producer.
Detroit is where her story began. Now, it is where the next chapter of her creative career is being built.
